The Baltic Sea contains thousands of shipwrecks and wartime munitions, posing long-term risks to the marine environment, coastal communities, and maritime activities. Hazardous materials such as fuel and toxic substances may leak, leading to significant ecological and economic consequences.
This workshop will:
- Address the risks and challenges associated with underwater wrecks and munitions
- Present current EU initiatives and projects focused on monitoring and mitigation
- Bring together experts from science, policy, industry, and international organizations
- Facilitate discussion on sustainable strategies for managing underwater hazards in European seas
